SHOTS!
For a while now I've been playing with the thought of what I want to do for my 21st birthday. My birthday isn't until next May so you may be thinking I'm getting ahead of myself....I think not.
I really want my 21st birthday to be impacting (and not in the get plastered kind of way). Instead of gifts, I would like to raise money for a good cause.
Here's my "campaign" I guess you can say:
The theme will be 21RUN to raise $2,100 by or before my 21st Birthday. Ideally I would like to have a website called 21run.org (.com is already taken). On the website I will have 21 shot glasses wooo! (each value $100) and as donations come in, each shot glass will fill up, that way there is a fun visual way of watching my progress! The rest of the website will be a focus on the issue or cause I am working toward. Which leads me to my next inquiry....
WHO OR WHAT DO I DONATE TOO!?!?!
There are so many great organizations and important issues out there I wish I could donate to all of them!
I would love to focus on higher education and what I can do to support the effort of students like myself working for a better future. That's when I played with the thought of awarding it as a scholarship (bad idea). I'd either have to partner with an organization which would narrow my awardance too specific than maybe I would like at the moment, OR go through all of the paper work and money (THAT I DON'T HAVE) to establish a formal scholarship fund of my own.
At the moment I am gathering up my notes, lists, ideas, pros and cons, of different organizations or scholarship funds I could donate to and focus my fundraising efforts to!
Let me know what you think and if you have any IDEAS, SUGGESTIONS or RESOURCES I could utilize or consider!

Field Trip to REI
Today we went on a Field Trip to REI's flagship store in Seattle. I drove one of the student vans and transported 12 people including myself to downtown and back.
Not only is a 12 passenger van huge, but they didn't build the parking garage for long vehicles like the one I was driving. We barely got in through the narrow entrances, and the turns to go up the levels were really narrow with cars and poles in the way. We finally parked and when I got out of the van I felt emotionally exhausted.
As the presentation about REI's human resources frame ended (did you know they give full benefits to part-time employees?!) I ran to the restroom and was not gone for more than 2 minutes. The group managed to leave and I was lost for a good 10 minutes in the store. I missed the tour of the warehouse and when I finally found and joined the group.....no one noticed I was missing. But its okay, I had the key to the van :)
Oh and I'm also looking into Teach for America when I graduate....we'll see :)

You're the RA?!
Some residents from a different floor spotted me off campus and decided they were going to let me know I was the RA who warned them about getting documented
"You're the RA?!"
ME:"Nope, not here I'm not"
"But you almost wrote us up"
ME:"Yup, doing my duty when I'm in the building, I gave you a warning"
One guy looks at the other "Yea man she did"
Other guy "Well alright then! Thanks!"
Boys....

PORQUE?!
Why did I create this blog?!
Partially because I didn't want to get reading done for class, but I've also played with the thought of documenting the Cosas Mensas (Dumb Stuff) that happens to me or that happen around me.
To add a tid bit about my background.
I am a second generation Mexicana, my parents immigrated to the United States in the 70's (I'm not that old) and the youngest of two.
I grew up in Las Vegas (yes, people live here) and am currently in my junior year of my undergraduate in Seattle as a Public Affairs major with a minor in Non-Profit Leadership....yes I aspire to be poor for the rest of my life.
I'll leave on this note thats truly inspiring. I overheard someone yelling into their phone walking around on campus. (Pardon the racial language, it's a quote)
"I don't got no boyfriend N****! I told him to get steppin to!"
Happy Monday :)
